The interesting archive of original documents relating to Major E. H. Barr, Royal Marine Artillery, who was awarded the Distinguished Service Order during the Great War

Edwin Harold Barr was born on 1 October 1879 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 1 July 1897. Rising through the ranks in the pre-War British Army he was a Captain by the outbreak of the Great War. Entering the war at Ostende and Dunkirk he received a 'Mention' in Lord French’s despatch of 30 November 1915, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order with the Royal Marine Artillery, Anti-Aircraft Brigade in France (London Gazette, 1 January 1916, refers). Promoted Major on 15 May 1916, he died in 1924 at Aldermaston, Berkshire, at the early age of 45.
