Great War Memorial Scroll (Lieut. George Alfred Featherston 108th Sqdn. Royal Air Force), reduced in size

George Alfred Featherston was born on 8 June 1899 at Sunderland, the son of Captain G. A. Featherston, The Nest, Stanley Road, Deal, and was an apprentice at the Scotia Engine Works prior to joining up in October 1917. He completed his pilot training in March 1918 and joined 108 Squadron in France. Whilst on a bombing operation towards Thielt (leaving at 3.24pm) he was in combat with 33 Fokker D.VII's over Ingelmunster. Featherston's DH9 was seen in control near Roulers but he was later reported missing in action, and is buried in Harlebeke New British Cemetery.
