James Duncan Allan was born on 17 November 1903 at Altringham, Cheshire. Sailing for Bombay in September 1924, he was married at the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart, Calcutta in February 1931, by this time a Guard on the East India Railways. Awarded his E.M. as per Indian Army Order 37/AP of September 1944, his clasp was awarded as per Indian Army Order 27/AP/46 of July 1946. Returned to England on the Chitral in April 1947, he settled in Lowton St Mary's, Manchester and died in May 1980; sold together with copied research.
