Sidney Robert Marston, a native of Liscard, Cheshire, was born in July 1894 and served on the Western Front with the Royal Engineers from 15 April 1915.
Posted to No. 3 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps on 13 April 1916, he transferred to No. 57 Squadron on 1 December 1916 and was admitted to 7 Commonwealth Staging Hospital at Le Havre with gonorrhoea on 3 December.
Bak at duty by 15 December 1916, he joined No. 4 Squadron on 30 December 1917 and it was with them that he earned his Medal. Whilst in France he married Helene Bentin at Boulogne on 7 November 1918. Marston returned to the fold with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He died in July 1964 in Cambridge, having lived on Malvern Close for some years.
