(x) A Great War M.M. group of four awarded to Lieutenant G. R. Hughes, Canadian Engineers, late 3rd Canadian Infantry (Toronto Regiment), who was decorated for his work as a Despatch Rider

M.M. London Gazette 11 October 1916. The citation states:
'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty as Despatch Rider during the sixteen months the Company has been in the field. His work on both occasions the Division has been in the Ypres Salient, particularly during the enemy's attacks on April 24-26, 1916.'
Gordon Ransom Hughes was born in Toronto, Ontario in June 1892 and was a contractor upon his joining the Canadian Forces on 22 September 1914. He served with the Toronto Regiment in England and France. Having been decorated for his fine work with the 1st Canadian Divisional Signal Company, he was commissioned Lieutenant on 15 February 1917. Hughes was discharged medically unfit on 4 October 1918; sold together with copied research.
