Charles Henry Cadogan Best was born at Lambeth in April 1888 and first served in France with the City of London Rifles in France from 1916. Best was serving with 'B' Company when being admitted to hospital on 3 May 1916 as a result of shell shock. Transferred to the London Irish Rifles, he added the M.M. to his laurels before returning home. By 1935 he was living at Avonmore Road, Barons Court and died in 1968 in Chelsea.
