Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (S/11204 Pte. R. Allison. 4/A. & S. Highrs.), good very fine
D.C.M. London Gazette 14 February 1919. The citation followed on 10 January 1920 (4th Battalion, attached 2nd Battalion):
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 29th September, 1918, when his Company had consolidated near Villers Guislain. He occupied a shell hole on the extreme left, getting his Lewis gun into action, and preventing the enemy working round the flank. He then moved his gun to an exposed position, knocking out one enemy gun and capturing another, which were harassing his Company by their fire. Later, he dispersed a counter-attack.'
Robert Allison, a native of Kilmarnock, served with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders during the Great War (Pair only).
