Guy Yelverton Tyrrell was born at Dublin on 5 November 1893. Having been educated in Ireland, he was commissioned into the East Kent Regiment in 1914, serving with the 3rd Battalion in France and Belgium, being wounded in action by a bullet on 12 February 1915. Attached to the Royal Flying Corps as Flying Officer on 12 December 1917, he transferred to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 as Flying Officer. Tyrrell formed part of a small Royal Air Force unit serving in Ireland in 1920 and was placed on a list of Officers who should be removed from action by the CO of No. 11 (Irish) Group, Group Captain Bonham-Carter.
Tyrrell went out to Baghdad with No. 30 Squadron and it appears he lost/destroyed his Medals whilst out there, for a duplicate set were issued to him in June 1925. Nonetheless, he became Flight Lieutenant in December 1923, and Group Captain in June 1940. Tyrrell died at Devizes on 9 October 1985.
