M.I.D. London Gazette 9 November 1944. The original Recommendation states:

'Ronald Graham. 44 RTR, 1 Army Tank Brigade, Indian Brigade.

Following his capture in N Africa on 31 May 1942, Graham was sent via Benghazi, Swani Ben Adem and Capua to Macerata (Camp 53).

On 15 September 1943 after the sentries had deserted, Graham walked out. Whilst travelling between Castel di Sangro and Alfradena on 19 November with five other Prisoners of War, the party was apprehended by a German patrol. They were taken to Madonna di Stella. Four days later, after the wire had been cut with a pair of old 'vine pruners', Graham and four others escaped.

Again on 28 November Graham was arrested at Picinisco and taken to Frosinone barracks. He and another Prisoner of War descended from a window by means of a blanket rope and thus regained their freedom on 2 December 1943. Graham proceeded to Pereto, where he stayed until the arrival of Allied forces on 9 June 1944.'
