Kezia Esther Allen was born at Runcorn on 15 November 1885, and was the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Allen of Hardshaw Street, St. Helens. She trained as a nurse at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, 234 Great Portland Street, London between 1904-07 and qualified as a nurse at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Portland Street, London. She served at Queen Victoria House, Barkingside and then as a Staff Nurse at Monsall Fever Hospital, Manchester followed by various other postings until she signed a six month contract as a Nurse with the British Red Cross on 31 July 1915. Served in Etaples between 2 March -29 November 1916, returning to Liverpool Merchants' Hospital, Liverpool. She married Mark Roy McConville on 25 December 1916 (a Private in the Labour Corps) and gave birth to her son on 28 April 1917.

She resigned from the British Red Cross to train as a midwife on 31 December 1917, qualifying on 10 August 1918 at Manchester House, Widnes.

She died on 6 December1918 at Westcliff Nursing Home, Westcliff on Sea, Essex as a result of contracting influenza/acute lober pneumonia in Spanish Flu pandemic.

Joseph William Allen lived at the same address as K. E. Allen, he enlisted on 29 October 1917 and served with 500 and 504 Siege Batteries and was discharged on 24 February 1919.
