Barney Lazarow, a Russian by birth, attested for military service on 24 December 1915 with his Attestation papers noting he had previous experience with the Transvaal Scottish during the 'Rebellion'. He was mobilised for the East African Campaign, and like so many involved in that theatre of war his papers note at least nine separate cases of being sent to hospital suffering from such ailments as Malaria, Pleurisy and Bronchitis; sold together with copied Attestation papers and record of services.
