Stephen Gordon Harber enlisted in the Heidelburg Commando on 12 January 1915, serving in the German South-West Africa Campaign and was discharged in August the same year. His next enlistment, into the South African Field Artillery, lasted from July 1918 until January 1919; his Discharge papers note his personal address as Balfour Station, Transvaal.
