Albert Swinscoe was born at Nottingham on 2 May 1889 and enlisted with the Royal Navy as Stoker Class II on 8 February 1915. Posted to the minesweeper Speedwell on 4 August 1915 he was still with her two months later when she rammed the U-boat U-41, causing her serious damage. Swinscoe joined Dreadnought on 26 August 1916 and served with her until 25 August 1917 before going ashore. His final posting afloat was the depot ship Woolwich between 1 January 1918 - 30 June. He was demobilised on 14 February 1919; sold together with copied research.
