Three: Able Seaman Simpson, Royal Navy, who was serving on H.M.S. Obdurate at the Battle of Jutland

Frank Simpson was born at Great Yarmouth on 13 February 1893 and was a market gardener when he joined the Royal Navy on 3 April 1909 as a Boy Second Class. After initial training at Ganges he joined Impregnable, subsequently serving on other vessels before joining Obdurate on 1 April 1916 and served with her at the Battle of Jutland.

Obdurate was launched on 21 January 1916 by Scott's of Greenock, the vessel served as part of the Grand Fleet in the Battle of Jutland in May 1916. The destroyer formed part of the cover for the British battlecruisers and was involved in attacks on German battleships and destroyers, but recorded no hits.

Simpson was discharged to shore on 12 February 1923 having been paid a war gratuity; sold together with copied service papers.
