Arthur Stanley Bolton was born at London on 16 May 1890 joining the Royal Navy in May 1908 as a Boy 2nd Class.

He was posted to the Mary Rose on 18 January 1916, a torpedo boat destroyer and was serving with her during the Battle of Jutland. Mary Rose was part of the 12th Destroyer Flotilla and though she suffered no casualties at Jutland. Just over a year later, she was sunk in the North Sea by German light cruisers. The ship, along with the destroyer Strongbow, was guarding a convoy traveling from Norway to Lerwick and lost all of her crew apart from 10 men. Bolton is commemorated at the Chatham Naval Memorial; sold together with copy service papers and research.
