John Connor was born at Dewsbury, Yorkshire in 1859 and worked as a 'Factory Operative' prior to enlisting at Burnley on 20 February 1882. It was not long until he was posted to General Wolsey's army in Egypt, disembarking on 11 August 1882. Here the Battalion formed part of the 2nd Brigade at the Battle of Tel-El-Kebir were they storm the defences of Arabi Pasha's army at bayonet point killing over 2,000 of them. Such was the speed of the victory that just six months after his arrival Connor was leaving Egypt for Malta, arriving there on 5 February 1883.

Returning to Britain in May he joined 2nd Battalion went it was ordered to India, leaving aboard the transport Jumna in September that same year. Here they were to serve for a year before service in Egypt once again called, with 2nd Battalion arriving in the country on 16 September 1884. Here they took part in the unsuccessful Nile Expedition to relieve General Gordon in Khartoum.

Leaving Egypt again on 9 September 1885 Connor was to serve another four years with the Regiment. He was finally discharged on 19 February 1889; sold together with copied research.
