An original extract from the War Diary of the 7th/8th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers covering 14 May-2 August 1917, including the opening of the Battle of Passchendaele

War Diary handwritten in loose pages held together by paperclip, sold together with a number of photographs, foxing, slightly faded and weathered but overall very fine

The Battalion War Diary includes the promoted of Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Frederic Beauchamp Dennis, D.S.O. and bar, to command the regiment. The visit of King George V on 6 July 1917 while the Battalion was training for their part in the Battle of Passchendaele. The period from 31 July-2 August covers the opening days of the Battle in which they saw heavy fighting and suffered high losses although significantly more men wounded then killed, not least their C.O.
