William Percival was born at Stantonbury, Buckinghamshire and was a Motor Painter when he enlisted on 28 July 1915 at Perth, Western Australia. Percival was attached to A.M.C. Clearing Hospital from 1 September 1915 and embarked overseas from Alexandria on 4 December 1915 aboard the Assaye. However he fell victim to Influenza on 14 February 1916 and was sent to Tel-El-Kebir, he then served with 14th General Hospital followed by service with 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital from 7 November 1917. Embarking on Caledonia for return to the United Kingdom on 1 May 1919, he was demobilised on 22 September 1919 in London.
