A 1918 D.C.M. group of six attributed to Farrier Sergeant L. Keating, 7th Dragoon Guards - decorated for his work in a striking 'Warhorse' action at Le Cateau in October 1918

D.C.M. London Gazette 11 March 1920;

'At Le Cateau on 10 October 1918, he was severely wounded by two shells whilst attending to wounded horses, one of which was killed whilst he was dressing its wounds. On several other occasions he has undoubtedly been the cause of saving many good horses while have been badly wounded. By his fine example and cheerfulness under very trying circumstances he has gained the admiration of all ranks.'

Leonard Keating, a native of Battersea, served in France with the 7th Dragoon Guards from 13 October 1914. His Medals were issued to him at Bovingdon, Boxmoor, Hertfordshire.

The reason the recipient or a collector attempted to erased the details inscribed upon them remains a mystery; in the opinion of the cataloguer they are without doubt the Medals of the gallant Keating.
