The M.S.M. group of seven awarded to Captain R. S. R. Turner, Royal Army Service Corps, who was taken a Prisoner of War following the fall of Hong Kong in December 1941

Ronald Stanley Robinson Turner was born on 22 February 1914 at Camberwell. He was originally known as 'Ronald Joseph' Turner but changed his Christian names in 1949.

A packer by trade, he enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment in October 1932, serving in Egypt, Singapore and Hong Kong where he transferred as clerk 3rd class to the Royal Army Service Corps on 10 December 1940 and was posted to 12 Company.

Remaining in Hong Kong, he was one of the unfortunate servicemen taken a Prisoner of War when it fell to the Japanese on 25 December 1941. He was interned and was transported to Nagoya Camp in Japan.

Repatriated at the end of the Second World War, he was living in Trowbridge, Wiltshire and remained in the Royal Army Service Corps.

Promoted to war substantive Sergeant on 16 February 1949 whilst serving at London District. Turner served in Kenya from 28 February 1951-29 February 1954, being awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1951. He was awarded his M.S.M. in 1961 and was discharged from the Army on 9 November 1961. Remaining in Trowbridge, he gained a commission in the Wiltshire Army Cadet Force from which he retired on 1 August 1974. Turner died in Hastings in February 1991; sold together with a copy of his POW slip, copy service papers, and a framed original certificate of commendation for the Wiltshire Army Cadet Force signed by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire and a photograph of certificate presentation.
