(x) Four: Warrant Officer Class II J. M. Hill, Royal Corps of Signals, who died whilst a prisoner of the Japanese in 1945

General Service Medal 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine (792008. Sgln. J. M. Hill. R. Signals.); 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45, sold together with the original named slip of issue, minor contact wear, very fine (4)

James M. Hill was a native of Beckenham, London, living at Bramerton Road, Beckenham. Serving with No.2 Headquarters Company, Royal Corps of Signals as Company Sergeant-Major he was present at Singapore when the city came under siege. Its catastrophic fall on 15 February 1942 saw him taken prisoner by the Japanese and sent to Thailand as a Prisoner of War. Having been processed he was sent to Borneo; here the poor treatment of prisoners, combined with several Death Marches, saw a high attrition rate for P.O.W.s. Hill was among those who were never accounted for and he is considered to have died as of January 1945; sold together with copied research.
