Thomas Henry Ayre lived at 7 Marvel Street, Hull prior to enlisting with the 19th (2nd Tyneside Pioneers) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers he entered the war with them. Serving with this unit for some time Ayre was latter attached to the 17th (British Empire League) Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. With the end of the conflict he re-enlisted with the service number 4257039 serving in Iraq with the 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.
