Pair: Captain A. C. Dixon, Royal Army Medical Corps

British War and Victory Medals (Capt A. C. Dixon), together with corresponding miniature medals and an identity bracelet named 'Capt. A. C. Dixon R.A.M.C.', very fine (2)

Austin Clarence Dixon was a native of Walsall and medical doctor prior to the war, being noted in the Walsall Advertiser as being the physician called to attend the scene of a murder in 1914. Sarah Anne Longmore of Balls Street, Walsall, was killed by her husband - the chimney sweep Charles Longmore - on 31 January 1914. Dixon gave his opinion that the wound was not self-inflicted and could not have occurred as a result of the victim 'falling onto the murderers knife while he cut his tobacco'. The quashing of this rather weak excuse was enough to have Longmore convicted for the killing.

Commissioned Lieutenant on 1 January 1916, Dixon served in German East Africa from 31 March of that year. He applied for his medals on 13 June 1922 while living at Kenmare House, Walsall; sold together with copied M.I.C. and an extract from the Walsall Advertiser for 7 February 1914.
