Frank Herbert Crafts was born on 7 July 1874 and was a baker by trade when enlisted in the Royal Marines Light Infantry at Derby on 7 August 1892. Re-engaged for service in July 1904, he was discharged on 6 July 1913. Mobilised on 2 August 1914, Crafts served with the Portsmouth Battalion during the Defence of Dunkirk & Antwerp (1914 Star), being twice wounded in that campaign on 19 September & 13 October 1914. Thence serving on Gallipoli, he was wounded on 28 April 1915 and was killed in action on 6 May 1915, being commemorated upon the Helles Memorial; sold together with original forwarding letter for the Medals.
The Medals of his brother, who won a D.S.M. in the Caspian Sea, were sold in these rooms in July 2021.
