George Wright was born at Hythe, Kent, in 1895 and enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery on 10 September 1914. His service papers, available online, show that he was living in Orpington on enlistment and was a motor drivers assistant. Wright was wounded by a gunshot wound to the leg on 5 November 1918 at Mons and issued with a Silver War Badge.
