John Bennett saw service with the Monmouthshire Regiment as a Private (No. 3853, later No. 226584) on the Western Front from 11 December 1915 and also at one time service as a Private (No. 89075) with the Royal Defence Corps.

A steelmaker by trade, he had served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers between 25 February 1906 and 1910 when he was discharged with ignominy.

He left France on 26 September 1917 and would be discharged due to sickness on 26 March 1919; sold together with copied research.
