Harry Dare Bennett, from Stockport in Cheshire and a son of Sir Henry and Lady Julia Ann Joyce Bennett, was born in December 1886, served in France from September 1915 and was twice wounded in action: once at the Battle of Pozieres (23 July - 3 September 1916) and again during the Battle of Passchendaele, this latter occasion being noted as receiving burns to the right side of his face, mouth, and throat. Consequently discharged on 15 April 1918 and with additional entitlement to a Silver War Badge, his M.I.C. notes forwarding addresses in both Norwich and Streatham, London.
