Henry George Sheppard was born on 25 August 1889 at Portsea, Hampshire and was an Errand Boy prior to joining the Royal Navy on 25 August 1907. Serves on Philomel from 12 February 1908 - 12 July 1909. At the outbreak of the Great War he is serving on Hercules a Dreadnought Battleship which saw service at the Battle of Jutland, he remained on Hercules until 25 July 1916 followed by time on Victory I and Excellent and finally on Reindeer between 12 October 1917 for the remainder of his war service and is demobilised on 6 November 1919.
