A well documented British War Medal awarded to Captain P. G. K. Bridgwood, Royal Air Force, 2nd Battalion, late York and Lancaster Regiment

Paul Godfrey Kenneth Bridgwood was born at Stafford, Stafforshire on 24 May 1895, working as a Wool Merchant prior to attesting with the Coldstream Guards on 5 September 1914. Entering the war in France on 22 January 1915 (Star) with the 1st Battalon, Coldstream Guards as a Private. He did not serve long before applying for a commission and being accepted, posted as a Cadet to an Officer Training Unit. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 15 August 1915 Bridgwood joined the 2nd Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment. Promoted Lieutenant on 24 November 1916.

Bridgwood attended the flying school at Brooklands in December 1916-January 1917, earning his areo certificate on 7 January 1917. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on 28 March 1917, being posted to No. 59 Squadron the following month. Promoted Captain on 5 December 1917 he remained with his squadron until 4 February 1918 when he was joined the Home Establishment. Here Bridgwood was severely injured in a flying accident on 22 July 1918. He was finally posted to the unemployed list on 30 June 1919; sold together with an original R.N.A.S. brass dish and a collection of photographs as well as copied service papers including service records, census data and London Gazette extracts.
