China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (Pte. J. McKenzie, R.M.L.I., H.M.S. Centurion.), light contact marks, otherwise very fine
John McKenzie was born at Lochenhead, Perth on 9 November 1878. He enlisted into the Royal Navy on 8 March 1897 and served on Centurion from 17 September 1898 to 19 September 1901. His China medal was presented to him by King Edward VII on 8 March 1902.
He re-engaged on 11 March 1909 and served on Minerva from 12 June 1914 to 31 January 1918. Then on the Portsmouth Division from 1 February 1918 to 24 September 1918 and then to Arrogant from 25 September 1918 to 24 February 1919, returning to the Portsmouth Division from 25 February to 4 July 1919 when he was demobilized. He is additionally entitled to a 1914-15 Star Trio for his 'Great War' service.
