China 1900, no clasp (W. G. Richardson, Sto., H.M.S. Isis.), slight edge bruise, very fine
William George Richardson was born at West Norwood, Surrey on 9 October 1877, working as a Barman prior to enlisting with the Royal Navy on 10 September 1897. His first posting afloat was the light cruiser Isis on 10 May 1898 and it was with this vessel that he entered the Cretan Intervention. Isis was notable as the vessel aboard which a number of Cretan Turks were held after the Candia Riots in September 1898.
She was later to be involved in the Boxer rebellion, rushing to take up station at Hong Kong. Remaining there until January 1902 she returned to Britain with Richardson going ashore on 19 January. He was to see further service with Leander, Blenheim and Blake, being posted to the reserves on 18 September 1909; sold together with a copied medal roll and service record.
