Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free States, South Africa 1901 (2681 Pte. A. Yates. 23rd Coy 8th Imp:Yeo:), good very fine

Alfred Yates was born at Pratley, Yorkshire in 1878 and worked as an Engineer prior to enlisting with the Imperial Yeomanry on 4 January 1900. Joining the 23rd (Lancashire) Company, 8th Battalion he entered the Anglo-Boer War in South Africa on 11 February of that year, serving there until 25 August 1901.
