(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Natal, Orange Free State, Transvaal (4055 Pte. G. Barrett, Glouc: Regt.), edge bruising and minor contact marks, nearly very fine

George Barrett was born at Bevington, Berkley, Gloucestershire in 1872 and enlisted at Bristol on 8 August 1893 with the Gloucestershire Regiment. Prior to the Anglo-Boer War Barrett saw service in Malta, Egypt and India, arriving at South Africa on 24 September 1899 with the 1st Battalion. He did not remain there long being posted to St. Helena on 4 December 1900 and as such is only entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal, although he did return to South Africa on 1 April 1902, staying until September when he returned to Britain. Barrett joined the Army Reserve on 28 December 1902 and was discharged on 7 August 1905.
