Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps Relief of Kimberly, Paardeberg, Driefontein (4452 Pte J. Beckley, Oxford: Lt. Infy.), slight edge bruise, minor contact wear overall, very fine

James Beckley (also spelled Bickley or Brickley) was born at Chalford, Buckinghamshire in 1875 and attested the with the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Oxfordshire Light Infantry on 27 February 1895 at High Wycombe. He was serving with the 1st Battalion by the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War and was with them on the advance to relieve Kimberly. They saw heavy fighting at Paardeberg and then joined the army on its advance on Bloemfontein. Here Beckley fell ill with enteric fever and died on 21 April 1900, he is commemorated upon the Coombe Hill Memorial and the Oxford Light Infantry Memorial.
