Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Capt G. Swiney, Offg Sub-Asst Comy Genl), mounted as worn upon a silver riband buckle, deeply toned with a few light contact marks, good very fine

G. Swiney served during the Sutlej campaign (Medal) followed by service during the Sonthal Rebellion of 1855-56; he was later present during the mutiny of the 7th Native Infantry at Dinapore on 25 July 1857. Joining Lord Kerr's force Swiney was present at the relief of Azimghur, engaged with the rebels under Koer Sing on 6 April 1858, and saw numerous other skirmishes.

Employed as Commissariat Officer with the Azimghur Garrison until its relief by Sir E. Lugard in April 1858, he was later to serve with the Brigadier McDuff's column and was present at the action of Suhao in Bundlecund on 4 September 1858. The next month they again engaged a body of rebels at Burrah in the Jaloun District on 12 November.

Swiney received the thanks of the Deputy Commissioner for his efforts and went on to command the Jaloun Military Police in an engagement with the mutineers at Rohain on 14 May 1859. He received further thanks from the Lieutenant-Governor, North Western Provinces (1 June 1859), being further employed in various clashes with the rebels between July 1858 - March 1860.
