India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Hazara 1888 (1743 Pte. A. Novis. 2d Bn R. Suss. R.), edge brusie, suspension slack overall very fine

Alfred Novis was born at Brighton, Sussex in 1866 and enlisted with the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester on 4 December 1884. He saw home service for a year before being posted to India were he was to serve for some years. Novis was part of the British force which deployed on the Hazara- or Black Mountain- Expedition 1888 against the troublesome tribes of the region. Returning to Britain on 16 January 1893 he saw three more years of Home Service before being discharged on 3 December 1896.
