India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp Burma 1885-7 (W. Sayer, Ord, H.M.S. Ranger.), some contact wear, very fine

William Sayer was born at Gillingham, Kent on 9 September 1867 and joined the Royal Navy on 4 April 1883 as Boy Class II. Posted first to Agincourt then a number of other vessels including Minotaur and Bacchante. Finally joining Ranger on 18 August 1885 he reached his majority there, being appointed Ordinary Seaman on 9 September 1885. It was with her that he served in the Third Anglo-Burmese War, later being advanced Able Seaman on 1 July 1887. Sayer went on to serve with several more vessels including Archer, Centurion and Leander finally being discharged on 21 October 1895; sold together with copied service records and a medal roll.
