Imperial Service Medal, G.VI.R. (John Hearn D.C.M.), very fine

D.C.M. London Gazette 17 April 1917:

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He assumed command of a party of men and attacked an enemy strong point, which he captured together with a machine gun. Later, he materially assisted in repelling an enemy counter-attack.'

John Hearn served in France with the Yorkshire Light Infantry from 17 February 1915 and is entitled to a 1914-15 Star trio.

He is the only John Hearn that was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal in the Great War.
