M.M. London Gazette 19 August 1919, the original recommendation states:
'As Despatch [SIC] Rider this N.C.O. has done very valuable service, and by his energy and initiative has frequently got his despatches [SIC] through under very difficult conditions.
On two occasions during operations near Le Cateau in October 1918 he was blown off his motor cycle, but managed to carry on and deliver his despatches [SIC]
Arthur George Warner lived in Southampton prior to enlisting with the Royal Engineers, with his service number suggesting he was initially allocated to the Cable sections. Entering the war in France on 15 September 1915 (although his M.I.C. incorrectly gives the year as 1916 the medal roll corrects the mistake), at some stage Warner was posted to 'N' Corps, Signal Company. Here he acted as Motorcycle Corporal, riding dispatches between various posted, often under heavy fire.
'N' Corps Signal Company saw heavy fighting throughout the latter years of the war, particularly in 1918 when they were present for the Pursuit to Mons - the occasion when Warner was twice blown from his Motorcycle. Later they also saw fighting during the Battle of St. Quentin Canal, Cambrai and the Selle before finally ending the war at Sambre. Warner survived the action despite a number of close calls and was demobilised on 10 May 1919 having been recommended for the M.S.M. by the time of the award this had been upgraded to the M.M.; sold together with an original copy of the recommendation for award as well as copied research comprising a photograph of the recipient on his motorcycle, an M.I.C. and medal rolls along with typed summaries of the recipient's career.
