Charles Ernest William Grubb was born at Chatham on 22 February 1897 and served during the Great War with the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He joined the Royal Navy on 20 June 1922 and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal on 14 May 1933. Having continued to serve during the Second World War, he was invalided ashore on 17 October 1945.
