Robert Crawford was born in 1888 and worked as a Bricklayer at Whitburn, Lothian prior to enlisting with the Royal Garrison Artillery on 27 March 1916 at Yarmouth. Posted to 160 Heavy Battery he also saw service with 117 Heavy Battery and 116 Heavy Battery.

Thomas Nairn Crawford enlisted on 7 June 1916 and was posted to the Army Service Corps. Promoted Corporal on 21 June 1918 he was further advanced Sergeant on 24 April 1919.
