1939-45 Star; War Medal 1939-45; Efficiency Medal, Territorial, G.VI.R. (5500223 Pte. R. Barton. R. Hamps.), both campaign and Efficiency Medal in their named boxes of issue, good very fine (3)

Herbert Barton served with the 1/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment during the Great War.

R. H. Barton served with the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment during the Fall of France 1940 and was one of the few members of that Regiment to be taken prisoner of war during the withdrawal to Dunkirk. This unit maintained such cohesion during this period that they lost little to none of their weapons or ammunition, earning the praise of Minister for War Anthony Eden as a result. Barton was held at Stalag XX-B and released in 1945; sold together with a Prisoner of War Association badge, Pathfinder miniature compass and cigarette lighter, the bottom impressed Victory May 1945'.
