James Boulton was born at Anstey, Leicestershire, in 1881 and enlisted at Leicester. Entering the war in France on 5 November 1914 he saw service for the next year until the action at Bois-Grenier when he was killed in action on 25 September 1915.
An attack near Armentieres carried out in parallel to the opening of the Battle of Loos, the Battalion took Bridoux Fort early in the day before advancing on the Second Line. Later by around 13:00 they had been pushed back with Bridoux Fort falling at that point. Boulton was one of around 60 men killed during the fighting, along with their commander for the attack Major Henry Hoskins D.S.O. He is commemorated upon the Ploegstreert Memorial; sold together with Commonwealth War Graves details and typed research along with a photograph of the Ploegstreert Memorial.
