(x) Pair: Chief Engine Room Artificer Class I C. T. Flood, Royal Navy, who saw service at the Battle of Jutland with H.M.S. Champion later being part of H.M.S. Repulse's world tour

Charles Thomas Flood was born at Chatham, Kent on 16 February 1888 and enlisted with Pembroke as Boy Artificer on 1 January 1906. Serving afloat for the first time with battleship H.M.S. Venerable he was promoted Engine Room Artificer Class IV aboard her on 29 January 1909. Further service followed including Pelorus and Halcyon and by the outbreak of the Great War Flood was Engine Room Artificer Class III with the depot ship Hecla.

Posted to the light cruiser H.M.S. Champion on 8 October 1915 he was still with this vessel when she engaged at the Battle of Jutland. Champion was the flotilla leader for the 13th Destroyer Flotilla under the command of Captain J. U. Farie and joined the Battle Cruiser Fleet during the 'Run to the South'.

In the early stages of the fighting Champion's erratic manoeuvring caused some confusion amongst the British Destroyer Flotillas. She later found herself leading a mixed group of strays from various units twice engaging the scattered German units during the withdrawal. Flood continued to serve with Champion after the battle, being promoted Chief Engine Room Artificer Class II with her on 1 November 1917.

Posted to H.M.S. Repulse after the war, on 3 June 1923 he was promoted Chief Engine Room Artificer Class I on 1 November 1923 as she was conducting her world cruise. Flood was pensioned ashore on 15 February 1928 and settled at Chatham, Kent. Here he worked as a boilerman, dying on 18 November 1969; sold together with copied research including medal rolls, service papers and the 1939 census.
