Six: Chief Petty Officer C. H. A. Grills, Royal Navy, who saw Great War Service and returned to the colours during the Second World War, dying while still in service in 1944

Charles Henry Alfred Grills was born at Portsmouth, Hampshire on 21 April 1896. Entering the Great War in 1915 as an Able Seaman, he was a Leading Seaman by the end of the conflict. Awarded the Royal Naval L.S. & G.C. while a Petty Officer with H.M.S. Excellent, Grills was promoted Chief Petty Officer with Warspite on 2 May 1933. Shore pensioned on 20 April 1936 he returned to service on the outbreak of the Second World War as Chief Petty Officer (Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve shore). Grills died at President III on 3 December 1944 following a bout of pneumonia. He is buried at Portsmouth (Kingston) Cemetery and his medals were sent to his brother William; sold together with a copied Commonwealth War Graves certificate.

William Norman Grills was born in 1895 and enlisted with the Royal Artillery, Army Reserve on 30 November 1915. Mobilised for service on 5 August 1916 he was posted to France on 30 March 1917. Promoted Bombardier on 14 August 1918, he was demobilised on 2 December 1919; sold together with a bracelet inscribed 'H. M. Grills 32 Bonchurch Rd. Portsmouth Hants.'
