Charles Hoare entered the war in France on 15 August 1914 with the 5th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Promoted Lance Corporal by 1917 he was received a 'mention' that same year (London Gazette 14 December 1917, refers). Hoare finished the war as Corporal Class II; sold together with a copied M.I.C.
