[O.B.E.] London Gazette 3 June 1919

Edmund Waller was born in August 1865 in Bengal, and commissioned into the Border Regiment at the age of 20. Serving at home until 1887, the following year he was with his regiment in the East Indies and in 1888 was appointed to the Indian Army as Lieutenant, 19th Bengal Infantry and Indian Staff Corps.
Fulfilling various regimental roles for the next few years, in 1891 he was made Cantonment Magistrate and three years later was on the Station Staff at Sialkot. Promoted Major in 1903 and Substantive Lieutenant-Colonel in 1911, it was in this rank that he served during the Great War (still in India) and at the conclusion of which he had added a British War Medal, a 'Mention', and the Order of the British Empire to his accolades. Waller retired in August 1920 and died at Bath on 24 February 1941. A son, Captain H.E. Waller, was killed during the First World War whilst serving with the York and Lancaster Regiment.
