WWII - THE WILLIAM KACZYNSKI COLLECTION
The Collection served as the basis for "A Postal History of Refugees from the Nazis", published as "Fleeing From the Fuhrer", the History Press (2011), a copy of which is included. The Collection comprises hundreds of covers, stamps, ephemera, photographs, much written up for exhibition with a residue of backup research material. It divides into the following sections: Kindertransport Covers and ephemera (80) including a signed photo of Sir Nicholas Winton, the British diplomat in Prague who saved over 600 Jewish children.An important and rare picture postcard sent from the liner St. Louis on 27 May 1939, postmarked Deutsche Seepost, that had sailed from Hamburg to Cuba with 937 Jewish refugees aboard. Entry to the majority was refused and the St. Louis returned to Europe.
