Charles II (1660-1685), 'Elephant' Crown, 1666 XVIII, second laureate and draped bust right, elephant below, rev. crowned cruciform shields, nine strings to harp, edge lettered downwards, 29.69g, 6h (ESC 33; Bull 368; Spink 3356), very lightly bagmarked and with some softness to the hair, otherwise with a pleasing cabinet tone, an exceedingly wholesome survivor of this very sought after 'Great Fire of London' issue, a most pleasing very fine, very seldom encountered so fine, and historic as the year of the founding of the famous Spink auction firm
