Henry II (1154-1189), 'Shortcross' Pennies (5), Class Ib2, struck 1182-1185, London, Pieres, cruder crowned bust facing, rev. + PIERES • ON • LVN, voided short cross, quatrefoil in angles, 1.32g, 11h (SCBI Mass 295; Spink 1344), rich dark tone with rub to high points, almost very fine / good fine, scarce in this better state; another, Class Ic, struck 1185-1189, London, Gilebert, similar, rev. + GILEBERT • ON • LVN, 1.25g, 2h (Spink 1345), crinkled and porous, largely poor to good, but legible; another, struck 1180-1189, Northampton, Walter, similar to last, rev. + WALTER • ON • NORh, 1.26g, 10h, cracked and lightly porous, the portrait largely obliterated, the peripheries bolder, good to fair, legible; another, Richard I 'the Lionheart' (1189-1199), Class III, struck 1190-1194, Winchester, Osbern, similar, rev. + OSBERN • ON • WINC, 1,27g, 9h (North 967; Spink 1347), porous and split, fair, scarce; lastly, Class IVc, struck c. 1200-1204, London, Raul, similar, rev. + RAVL • ON • LVND, 1.40g, 2h (North 968/2; Spink 1348C), lightly cleaned, very fine / a bolder fine (5)
